Our next meeting on March 1, 2012

Don't forget about our meeting tomorrow at 6:45 pm on the third floor of the Joe Crowley Student Union. We will plan for State Convention and discuss our ideas to recruit more members. Bring a friend and enjoy some snacks!

Second Meeting of the Year

Our second meeting was a success especially since we added another member to the club! Plus, we ate brownies while sitting around the fireplace in the Joe. We discussed the following information at the meeting:

• We decided to volunteer on February 21 at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. (Although due to scheduling errors, we were not able to.)
• We also made plans to do two Ag in the Classroom days at ESSEX on a Monday and on a Tuesday.
• We planned the Fun Zone for Nevada State FFA Convention. It will include basketball, volleyball, board games, and the bungee run.
• We discussed the preshow for convention as well. Mackenzie confirmed that we will be the first preshow of the convention.
• Tyler and the other State FFA officers planned to do a media tour to help increase awareness about saving the University Farm.
• We discussed advisor options. A few people were mentioned and the members decided to continue reaching out to faculty.
• For recruitment, Kaine suggested talking with seniors. Kaitlynn suggested setting up a table during Nevada Bound and she volunteered to find out more information.
• Several volunteer opportunities were mentioned including volunteering at the wildlife refuge and at the local zoos.
• Two of the members volunteered to work as Career Development Event Judges during State Convention.
• Also, we discussed going sledding, tubing or snowboard for our recreational activity during March.

First Meeting of the Year!

     What a great turn out tonight for our first meeting! We had many new faces and much enthusiasm for our new club. Plus, Christy made some amazing snickerdoodles. For those of you who missed the meeting, here is a run down of what happened:
     -We are going to volunteer at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and at the ESSEX After School Program (dates and times will be determined later on)
     -We plan on hosting the Fun Zone at Nevada State FFA Convention and on hosting a booth at the convention as well. (more information will come)
     -Other possible ideas include helping save the University Farm, teaming up with the Sierra Nevada FFA Chapter for an event during National FFA week and hosting a preshow for Nevada State FFA Convention.
     -We decided to do some sort of bonding each month. This weekend on Sunday we will go ice skating from 11:00 am- 2:00 pm. Other ideas included bowling and roller skating.
     -We will meet twice a month. The next meeting is February 16th at 6:45 pm (the location will be determined later).
     -We came up with a few potential advisor ideas. By next meeting, we will hopefully have an advisor!
     -We also talked about goals, which we will work on next meeting.
     This year looks very promising. Thanks for the great participation and let us know if you have any suggestions or ideas. Hopefully, every meeting is as good as this one!
